Greetings Waltzers,

Missed the March ball in Ashland, OR? The internet is a convenient place to find out where the next
ball will be.

I’ve bookmarked
www.vienneseball.org/calendar.php, among others, to keep abreast of upcoming
balls across the country. The site depends upon its users to update
its calendar. For example, the San Diego Young Artists Symphony’s (SDYAS) annual ball —
June 28, 2001 — is not listed as I write this. However, as I did last
year, I’ll add the ball to the vienneseball.org calendar, and by the time you read this it will be
displayed.

Another handy site is
www.waltzballs.org/vw.html#list. Many ball listings are several years old.
However, you may find contact names and / or addresses to contact
for information on current upcoming balls. For another example, the Fort Collins, Colorado Wild
Asparagus Ball is scheduled for 2005 in the waltzballs.org
website, but you get enough information there to learn that the Wild Asparagus Ball of 2008 is May
10. I can’t make that one this year at least, but if you attend, please let me know how much fun
you had.

Specific sites in the West include the PEERS site —
www.peers.org — with balls almost monthly at
drop dead cheap prices, and of course, Murray Arts Center —
www.wrightwayenterprises.com/mac.htm — even less expensive and inexcusably close by, albeit with
a very crowded dance floor.

I’ve bookmarked 28 sites so far in my waltz career with information about not only balls, but also
dancers, dress, history, and technique.
YouTube is a
great site — search on “Viennese Waltz — to find dancers you can give yourself a quick
lesson from. Embarrass yourself by finding on YouTube a couple
dancing to the same waltz you’ve had someone film you dancing. No, were not Howson & Bolton
or Wilkins & Demidova just yet. But we’re trying. Aren’t you?
